last night i went to bed knowing that i'd wake up one day closer to the race.
it's noticeable .. you can sense that every thing you do from here out IS going to matter on sunday. there's no time to erase . .. try again, to get it right. ..
a few guys have had bouts with sickness.
Moos had been bent over, getting to know the porcelain in the hotel room bath...
we'll probably be taking it a bit more easy until the race. . too much rain riding.
last night there was a launch party for the team. . .we vanned up and went over to Club Seven. the place was packed. . the team clad in our red, team jackets, lots of hair product, except Sayers who is bald .. and when we walked in the entire place roared. .. kind of goofy. .. i know i didn't know how to react .. i dont think the others did either, even Moninger was trying to hid behind tall Vitoria when they made us line up on the stair way so that the people in the club could see us. . . but, it was more a testament to Gavin and how much the community here in Santa Rosa is behind him. The Mayor was there; he read a letter to the team, shook all our hands, announced each of us by name .. .. Gavin was beaming. this was the town he grew up in.
Vitoria is our new image.
he's tall, full of smiles. Swiss born, living and training in Spain. wants to learn english, tries hard to, and excited to be racing in N America. If we can be the agent for the that sort of change;
if we can be the provost for the expansion of american cycling, getting more races, bigger money .. . if we had 10 tour of Ca type races. . . the scene would change, and we'd be in the hot seat. ...it's better living living in the US. you can drink the tap water.
though, right now, Moos probably having a hard time buying that.
