the race today , stage one, cascade. .. managed to get in the break again, but bad on my part i took Ben Day with me when i bridged to the solo rider. . i mean i sort of brought him. i started the bridge, but the other dudes finished it off. i heard moninger yell something at me as i jumped, so i thought that there was something i wasn't realizing .. Day is fast, esp on the TT bike. so he wouldn't be a good dude to take up the road, i.e. he could very likely win the overall. so it made it difficult to convince the other dudes in the break that it wasn't in my (BMC) interest to have the breakaway succeed. i.e. a lot of yelling, and i would then like to just sit on the break, never taking a pull in the wind.
that lasted for a while. .. i kind of sort of was made to roll through eventually, but i was sure to soft peddle when i did, and not do any more than the rest of guys. . .. it was then the ideal situation that i would win the stage just before the peleton got to the line. . . again, that kind of sort of worked, minus the extra 1km of the final climb as dudes came flying up the hill past me.
i digress: i attacked with about 5 km to go. Heath Blackgrove from Toyota came with. we hit the 1.5 km climb right as the peleton was coming around the corner. i kept it going, but what seemed fast to me was not fast enough as dude's who'd been sitting in all day came flying past. . but, it was at least dramatic, and honestly the first time in an NRC race i was actually racing for the win (with a legitimate chance)
