almost bonking, but not, almost winning, but not; almost almost almost. . .
i hear a lot of "i almost..." statements in the world of cycling. then, the good or bad thing is, these "almosts" turn into "dids". .. with varying severity.
Two of my favorite cyclists are down with a couple "dids". . .Collier, junior out of the south side of Denver DID crash. . and his internal bruising/bleeding almost stopped but did not. He did have to stay in bed for the last couple weeks, and he did miss Jr. Nat's in PA last week (something that he did have his sites on and had been training for, specifically, hoping to step onto the 17-18 yr old TT podium) Blood clotting is something that Col has had to deal with since birth. .. Tom Zirbel did have blood clot in his leg, discovered sometime late March, and he WAS made to sit out every race since then, until Cascade, where he took a gamble (on an improved status) and raced again. Tom, for those of you who don't know yet, went into Boulder Community Hospital two nights ago with a pulmonary embolism, that is, the blood clot moved from his leg to near his lungs, life threatening. .. we could have lost him.
one guy with too much clotting. . one guy with not enough. same outcome.
keep it real people. there's more to life than cycling; there's more living to do.

Scott, please give our best wishes to Collier. We really enjoyed having him out last summer and hope he has a speedy recovery. Kristi & Daryl
Scott,
Great job at Cascade! Doc Wilson from Calvin called me the other day and asked if I'd talked to you. Thought I'd try and at least contact you and congradulate you on a great season so far. Take it easy and maybe we'll cross paths at some point. We'll be heading up Mt. Evans tomorrow morning early.

dude...
'almost', i heard that from ben so many times, i couldn't tell all of them. but we all have 'almost' stories. and it isn't ulitmately up to us whether we are kept with the living or put into a different world of what i hope is full of wonders... i hope you stay somehow safe, but always graciously alive riding with the wind and feeling the burning of muscles and lungs and seeing the lights flashing which never let you forget that living is a gift...
it's been fun to follow you along, somehow.. thanks for writing here. it makes me smile broadly to think you are living so well and have found many reasons to be happy!
