my dad's 71 Schwinn Continental overhauled and made into a Sebastopol CA townie single speed!
thanks PAPA!
face it people, we're addicted to oil.
you love driving that auto.
you love the power, the sensation that you could almost be in two places at once,
if you only drove fast enough, if only you didn't hit those red lights. .
if only those friggin cyclist weren't in your way !!! . . .

seriously. .
i think it's still hanging on the wall of the Sports Garage bathroom.. a quote, something said by a cowboy, acknowledging the advent of the automobile.. . saying that nothing else know to modern man will allow an individual to act more like a tyrant than that of the false sense of power that comes from driving an automobile. ..
that quote came into mind.. . most recently
when Giampaolo and an were heading into Santa Rosa on Mark West highway, climbing up a short hill where the roadside shoulder fell virtically down to the creek far below and were the there was little to ride on except a white line on the edge of the road.
all i heard was a honk and the absense of that sound you know when a vehicle is slowing down for you. the gigantic truck hauling two YES two trailers, loaded up, didn't want to loose its momentum, so it almost lost us into the creek void below, not without the industrial truck/steel/metal nearly gashing through our hips and/or rib cages.
mostly b/c i feared for my life, i waved and cursed at the driver as he sped off, looking back at me in his sideview mirror. .
not 5 minutes later (and unrelated to the episode prior), as i was still fuming a Cadilac SUV with shiney silver rims came by rolling down the passenger window and yelled "f$#* you!". .
i lost it. waving at him to come back so i could.. well, so i could jump off my bike and try ot act tough with plastic cleated shoes on hard pavement. i cursed and swung my arms and yelled in falsetto as i do when i'm really upset..
"wow" Giampaolo said. "you were really mad" (in an italian accent). .
"and man, you scream like a guurl"
oh well.
i try.
but seriously.
get off you butt and use non-petroleum mobility.. . you'll be proud of yourself. . .
look at the world of cycling. .
people in tights are the proudest there are. .
and go to boulder,
there's cyclist everywhere.
and so much pride, you can shake a stick at it!
... just kidding,
my driver's license still says boulder county.
til i change that,
I'll shut up...
unless you try to run me off the road.
...
oh then today,
an minivan,
a purple mini van. .
was about 4 feet off the back of Bill as we were descending down Occidenatal road, probably going 40 mph, and probably above the 35mph speed limit. .
this lady started honking as she was dangerously right behind up!
finally once things leveled out and the road straightened, she excellerated past us,
Levi giving her a "what's up!?". .
the bumpersticker on her purple plastic minivan bumper reading
"PEACE"
