this one's for tyler

tyler,
you wanted some words of wisdom? ..
keep wearing that brain protection equipment when you ride. ..
i digress.
today descending Geysers,
Brian, a Santa Rosa local,
known for good bike handling,
was in the super tuck +/- going down a steep descent.. .(that is, sitting aero on the bike, normally having you hands toward the middle of you handle bars away from the brakes)
but, a descent with open corners, allowing high speeds w/o much use of the brakes. .
i was futher down road, and Giampaolo was a 100m in front of me. .
Brian came flying past me,
then blazed past GP,
the two disappeared from site around a corner,
and when they reappeared,
at that instant,
i saw the Toyota truck turning left across our lane,
and Brain locking up the breaks, fish tailing and narrowly missing the tail end of the truck,
and then flying over his handle bars as he released the breaks, landing on his back,
and sliding 25+ feet across the pavement and gravel, slamming into a metal guard rail. ..
a FRICKING horrible thing to see, period
Brian is okay, minus a broken collar bone and concussion of the brain and much road rash and blunt trama to the face and back. . .
we covered him with Jackets and called 911.. in 10-15 minutes everyone with a siren was there to assist. ..

i think the dude in the truck was a builder/contracter dude, slowly turning across our lane, looking for a hard to find rural address/driveway up there in northern sonoma county no man's land.
and that was the wrong thing to be doing.
really, i think if it were a local driver, they'd know not to turn there all slow like. . .
the guy didn't say a thing, and was white as a ghost. ..

BE CARE-FULL ..
if you don't make it to the top first,
it doesn't mean you can make up for it by being the first one to the bottom.
make sure you make it home in one piece.
and awareness is probably you're best insurance.

Damn. You've really been on a rant lately! I kind of like the old Nydam who just asked questions and was like "Peace man". Now, I feel like I need a pad and paper every time I view your site just to take down the lesson.

Anyways, I agree, wear your helmet. There are only a few guys out there that were given the natural genetic good looks to justify not wearing a helmet. And all those guys are retired now. So, don't be worried to cover up that head, cuz you ain't that hansom.

Anyways, I'm gonna go out and dodge cars now, helmet equipped.

I don't have to say much. Your story tells it all. Any time, any place it could happen to anyone.

Oh yeah, and Garcia needs to follow his own advice better.
