RACEDAY #1

Saturday morning, i think. .. i only know that because we're doing a small, criterium race this afternoon.
otherwise it would either be "trainingday" or "restday", not Saturday. . or, maybe not even Saturday, it's raceday. .
wow, i just narrowed the week down to three days. !
mike sayers just walked in the breakfast joint here at the flamingo. .
anyone want to know MS's secret breakfast secrets? two croissants, quiche, bagel, yogurt (2 cups), coffee, and scrambled eggs just showed up.
that's what it takes to be Sayers. . he burns through 2k calories alone in yelling at and then consoling the neo pros.
there are a lot of people here that have history with the sport. . who have experience like mine, but X 10, or more.
sometimes i forget. .. even our director Gavin, who i've spent some time with these past few months, is just getting started in the cycling world again. . so it seems new to him, or at least his allegiances are few. .. sort of forging his own path . . . . i guess, i sort of feel the same. . i'm in the company of many steeped in the sport, but hopefully forging my own way through it all . .
so then, at the dinner table. . i have to bite my tongue. . at times verging on irreverence to the history, the wars fought, the legacy of struggles and successes of those seated at the table. there are guys with the most wins in the No Amer, people who have raced the Tour de France x 4 .. .
Sayers called me cocky. he looked at me after a smart Alic remark. . kind of having an epiphany, and said. . "dude, you're cocky. you try to act like you're not. . but you're cocky" . ..
i was a little stumped. like, i was searching for the same epiphany. digging through the files to see if i agreed. . . i told him .. "no no. .. i 'm just hopeful. . maybe too excited .. ?" he said, "yah, cocky". .
maybe in the world of cycling that's a compliment. kind of a twisted appreciation. like, "dude, you look sickly, you're sunken cheeks are gorgeous."
